Student Unions Restored! What Do You Think?

The Post reports: Gillani also announced the lifting of ban on student unions. First ban on student unions was implemented on February 9, 1984 in General Ziaul Haq era which was lifted in 1988 by late prime minister Benazir Bhutto. Second time Mian Nawaz Sharif banned the student unions and now the PPP has again lifted the ban.

What Do You Think About This? Please comment expressing your opinions.

i think lifting the ban off student unions sux big tym! in so many government universities, the political parties reck havoc (considering the unions are banned) just think wat they'd do once they r allowed to officially form their union!

I think lifting off the bans from student unions is a good thing. It would encourage today's youth to take more intrest in the government and politics of their country rather than looking at it with contempt.

I think it's good. While it was banned, it was banned for only legal and appropriate unions whereas the illegal political wings of different parties were allowed to function, and that too with guns. Whereas the rightful students were not allowed stating the ban. But now that they are legal, everyone will get a voice and the rightful unions will come forward to counter the political wings and their ghunda gardi. Not to mention, now that they are legal, there will be proper code and regulations that will ban weapons and other means of intimidation and terrorism on campuses.

Also, now this move will give a chance for the left student wings to emerge again. Until now, it was all right student wings (religious) which are mostly in the establishment's pocket and therefore do their bidding on campuses. which was why they had been allowed despite the ban. The left has always challenged the establishment and has always raised its voice against it, and therefore it has been successfully crushed in the last two decades. This move will again bring up the left and we need the left as well as the right to be there because they balance each other. We need that balance not only on campuses but in our society as well.
